Gillespie Electric, Inc. completed the electrical work on the Upper Perkiomen YMCA located in Pennsburg, PA in February 2015. This 72,000 square feet facility includes two indoor pools, a wellness center, sauna, locker rooms, elevated indoor running track, multipurpose courts, childcare center, and related office and common spaces. Large timber trusses are featured in the main lobby and pool areas. In the two story entrance and pool area the conduit was installed above the tongue and groove finished architectural wood ceiling but under the insulated roof requiring keen competence. The architectural design demanded the majority of the ceilings to expose wood and painted steel requiring utmost care taken to run the conduit systems particularly in the gym and wellness area. The wellness area mezzanine required a custom trough system to provide power and network connections to the exercise equipment, both while keeping the aesthetic look of the open steel building. The wellness area also required extensive underground conduit systems. Installations had to be of superior quality because significant amounts of the electrical work are exposed, requiring vigilance on the part of every electrician on the job. This extreme care and pride in workmanship is evident throughout the entire project. This project awarded Gillespie the Excellence Level in the category of Specialty Construction presented from the ABC 25th Annual Merit Construction Awards of Excellence Program on November 5, 2015.
